I Love You

I Love You<br>

While living in Columbus, Ohio, I had the chance to attend church where many deaf people attended. I didn't know sign language when I moved in and interpreters were sparse, so I learned a little bit of sign language with the help of my deaf friends there. I'm certain that I was only able to interpret about 10% of meetings for them. Sometimes I confused them more than I interpreted, but I enjoyed doing it and especially enjoyed the friends I made.

While learning, I met my friend, Walter Bryant, a kind soul who is dealing with a disease that cripples his hands and feet. Walter is deaf and must rely heavily upon his hands for communicating. I'm learning how to communicate with Walter in his own language without the aid of his hands. It takes getting down in his face and looking into his eyes. I think Walter can say anything with his eyes. When it comes to communication, where there's a will, there's a way.
