Restore My Dear Savior, the Light of Thy Face

There is are many things that I dearly love about the temple. The peace and serenity that is there for one thing. The fact that silence is accepted and indeed encouraged. The warmth and kindness of ordinance workers who recognize the need for a comforting hand on the shoulder. In all of these things as well as everything else that happens in the temple, the central figure of it all is Our Lord.

From the very beginning and throughout a trip to the temple, everything points to Christ; and his spirit is all pervading and comforting. For me I find that it’s easier to hear the whisperings of the spirit in the temple than anywhere else. Sometimes outside thoughts creep in that may not have any relevance. Yes I sometimes do get distracted when I’m there. But more often than not, as I go to the temple, I find a peace and comfort there and answers to some of life’s difficult questions.

On a recent occasion it was a much needed and prayed for feeling of comfort. As I was there words from a from a familiar hymn came to my mind that Rex reminded me of last week.

Restore my dear Savior, the light of thy face,
Thy soul cheering comfort impart.
And let the sweet longing for thy holy place,
Bring hope to my desolate heart.

Truly he does know of our need and is there to offer comfort and peace when we need it most.  Some of the difficulties and pains are still there, but the over arching feeling was that in the grand scheme of things they’re not as big as what they seem. Also some of the small yet truly sacred moments in our lives while they only may last a brief moment will be the cherished gems that get us over the rough places. Eventually all will be worked out according to the plan of our Heavenly Father. 4 Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain: (Isaiah 40:4)

Beautiful, Eric! Makes me want to go to the temple right this very moment. I wouldn’t make it before they close, but your post makes me long for it.
